Wow, what an interesting question.

I used to believe that I would find peace and freedom in weight loss. I actually lost a lot of peace and freedom in that chace. Once I hit my goal weight (and then some) I realised that I was more miserable then ever.

I truly believe that once you make peace with who you are - at any and every point in time - then you won't have to seek out peace and freedom. It will find you.

If you are truly healthy on the inside - what is on the outside will follow suit.

weight loss comes after peace. there is no other way it could be. Ironically, weight is a symptom of the lack of peace in ones life. Once peace is achieved, weight loss should become easy.

Great question.
For me, I'd have to say that my personal peace and freedom have come since losing the weight. It's made me more willing to get out there and live. It's made me happier to attend church regularly. It's gotten me in the right frame of mind that I'm looking forward to volunteering more at my girls' school. It's just made me more peaceful and... free-er with so many parts of my life. I never want to go back because I'm too happy where I am right mow.
I am on a constant seach for the peace in my heart - hell, I even posted about it this week!

Diminishing Lucy: Five easy steps to peace and calmness

For me, the peace begins to come as soon as I start eating heathily and being active. In the doing of what I know to be right, I find a little peace.

So I don't need to lose ALL the weight to find the peace. I just need to start.
I have believed in both. I think it depends where you are in your journey. Sometimes the weight falls off when you do feel at peace and then other times when the weight starts falling off you feel at peace and have courage to keep going and that you are doing something good for yourself. Hope that makes sence :)

I have never truly accepted myself or had peace. I am hoping that it will come with loosing weight. I have been over weight my whole life and always told I would never find anyone to love me or want me (by my own over weight mother no less) and I did find someone who loves me and we've been together for 10 years BUT I still can't look in the mirror and accept who I see.

for me it was DEFINITELY finding peace and freedom and only then did I shed the weight.

I agree with Lucy. I find that I gain more peace in my life as I control my eating (and my life in general). :)

This is really cool to see where each person finds themselves. It is so different for everyone.

I suppose when I think about it, I did find peace when I lost weight. But it was a slippery slope and I am now in a place where I am at a lower weight (I am working on accepting a small gain - because, while I am not underweight, it is tough for me to maintain) and I feel like I am almost trapped here - I live in FEAR of gaining weight. It is the worst feeling. I have gained 4 lbs since I have really started focusing on OVERALL health.

I know it is only 4 lbs and I am really healthy right now. But for some reason I have this fear that I won't be able to stop the gaining. Wierd?

The second one - for sure. And I'm still working on it. :)
Definitely #2! It just makes sense.
I find both have truth for me. I had to mentally prepare myself and be READY to lose weight so that in itself was finding freedom in that decision and peace in knowing that I was ready. And then in losing weight and in the journey, I have found more freedom and peace with having some success. It's mental success to overcome my thinking and perspective and physical success to wear smaller clothes and total FREEDOM like coming out of jail (that I posted about just recently).

What a good question. I have to admit that peace and freedom come from weight loss. I wish it weren't so. I'm in a pit right now with my struggles. I'm glad to have this to think about. Thanks!

Great question...I think weight loss comes after finding peace and freedom and if all else fails - eat less and exercise more :-)

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question. I think like most things in life, these things are cyclical and require constant maintenance. One of the best things I was ever told was that we have to stop thinking happiness is a right. It's a gift we get from hard work and determination sometimes too.

Wow!
For me I'd say that weight loss comes as a result of peace and freedom and yet as I lose weight I gain even more peace and freedom.
For me, my source of peace comes from my relationship with Jesus. The peace I get from weight loss is icing on the cake.

Don't get me wrong, I struggle with self-esteem and such, but I remind myself that I don't have value based on my size, but on the fact that the Lord created me.

Oh goodness.. I didn't mean to get preachy. this is just the best way I can think to answer your question.

Great question! I've loved reading everyone's responses and I can relate to so many of the feelings that have been expressed.

diane :)
I had to find peace and freedom before the weight loss. I had to understand myself and what I wanted to get there.
